Flooding

The Parish does suffer from some localised flooding from time to time. We have a very active South Zeal Flood Defence Group who monitor flooding as it occurs and who work to keep the village as safe as possible. If you need to contact them or would like to help then please contact the clerk on clerk@southtawtonparishcouncil.org.uk. Following any incidence of flooding, the group work to see what improvements to defence can be made and advocate to local authorities on behalf of the parish.

Devon County Council does have a fund for individuals to apply for flood protection for their homes. More details of this fund can be found here. It is worth noting that it is considered the responsibility of individual property owners to protect their home from flooding and this grant aims to assist in that.

South West Water have repeatedly told Council that all and any incidences of flooding need to be reported to them directly by the victim in order for them to gain a better picture of the situation. We highly recommend this course of action as it provides evidence of work that needs doing.
